My Story
Hmm, writing a story about me. TBH I'm not really good at writing... Because music takes up all my time 😏.
Let's rewind to when everything kicked off. At age 7, I laid hands on a piano for the first time. Back then, I didn't really get it like those prodigies who instantly crush on the instrument and become concert-level maestros after a few years. I took it slow and also picked up drums and percussion in Year 5 (11 years old, 2018). Fast forward to Year 9 (15 years old, 2022), I was offered the Music Captain of Middle School at Carey Baptist Grammar School and that's when my music journey really kicked off. Started composing, diving into theory, and actually falling in love with the piano and music in general. First time playing for a Musical and play was for Carey Middle School's "Strictly Ballroom" and "A Christmas Carol" respectively. I also was offered positions at Carey's top ensembles, "Wind Symphony" and "Symphony Orchestra." Finished 7th grade AMEB, and even picked up flute and violin as chill hobby instruments.
In Year 10 (16 years old, 2022), I completed the Grade 8 AMEB Exam and added trumpet to my self taught skill set. Also, got busy with MYO commitments, serving as Section Leader of Percussion at both Summer School and the Melbourne Youth Wind Symphony. For piano, I started prepping for my AMusA, my first performance certificate. Also interned at the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra too – yup, I obviously said yes to that. Classical pieces were my thing in every aspect – playing, listening, and composing.
Now, Year 11 (17 years old, 2023) gets juicy. Again, got offered the Section Leader of Percussion at Summer School's Heaton Symphonic Band, and did a performance at Hamer Hall with a speech introduction for one of our pieces. However, I turned down an offer from the Percy Grainger Youth Orchestra because rehearsals were clashing with my Badminton. I did this 3-week camp called Carey Zero where I was practically forced to listen to Pop and EDM. These 3 weeks have inspired me to create songs, so the day I was back, I took a shower and went straight to the piano to write a piece that is now known as "find my way." Throughout the year, I wrote more songs, "is this what fairness is" and my latest and most popular single, "thinkin' 'bout her." Towards the end of the year, I got an offer at Summer School for their flagship orchestra, and again, accepted for my 3rd year. I decided I was going to complete the LMusA in 2025 and set that as a goal to prepare for.
And that's about it! 😄
